Fran Kelly, CEO and president of CEOVIEW Branding LLC

Fran Kelly is a legend in New England advertising. The former Vice Chairman of Arnold Worldwide began his career with classic packaged good training, working on such American icon brands as Jell-O, Johnson and Johnson. In the course of a career spanning over 35 years, Fran developed successful integrated national campaigns for brands such as Titleist, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Molson, Ocean Spray and Jack Daniels. 

When it comes to the theme of our fall conference, results, Fran Kelly has the numbers to stand behind his efforts. Joining Arnold Advertising in 1994 Fran helped shape the agency’s successful Brand Essence strategic and creative philosophy. Notably, he helped develop the famous Drivers Wanted campaign for Volkswagen that saw US and Canadian sales grow from 100,000 cars to 400,000 cars. In financial services Fran helped deliver brand success for Citizens Bank, Huntington Bank, Progressive Insurance and Fidelity Investments.

Today Kelly is CEO and president of CEOVIEW Branding LLC, a consulting practice exclusively focused on helping CEO’s uncover the ideal branding direction for his or her unique organization. A passionate speaker on the art of brand building, Fran will deliver specifics what it takes for financial institutions to achieve break through brand success with reflections on those that have done it right and those that missed opportunities. Finally, he will demonstrate that great branding isn’t limited to giant banks, but can be delivered by smaller entities with focus and vision. 

Deb Stewart, Independent Banking Consultant

Deb Stewart works in the space where bank marketing, technology and sales meet. With projects impacting over 10,000 branch banks in North America, she collaborates closely with clients, leveraging consumer insights to design and implement unique customer experiences and marketing solutions -- all focused on driving competitive differentiation and results. The winner of numerous publishing awards, her writing focuses on "the next big things" in financial services.

Deb has helped to deliver results driven solutions for clients such as PNC, Bank of America, Citibank, Royal Bank of Canada, First Charter (Fifth Third) as well as many in the technology sector. She frequently consults with design firms such as Gensler, Bergmeyer, John Ryan Performance and Miller Zell.

Karen Benedetti, Vice President of Marketing, Service Credit Union

Karen Benedetti is the Vice President of Marketing of Service Credit Union, headquartered in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Service Credit Union has more than 210,000 members, more than $2.6 billion in assets, is the largest NH based credit union, the largest state chartered financial institution in New Hampshire and the 60th largest in the United States out of more than 6,500 credit unions. Service Credit Union has 49 branch offices, 31 branches in New Hampshire, one in Massachusetts, one branch in North Dakota, 15 branches on U.S. military bases in Germany and a Virtual Branch. Karen Hakala, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Norway Savings Bank

Karen Hakala has 18 years of bank marketing experience and is the Senior Vice President of Marketing at Norway Savings Bank, in Norway, Maine. Karen has a Bachelor of Science degree in Leadership and Organizational Studies, holds the professional designation of Certified Financial Marketing Professional (CFMP) and is a 2004 graduate of the American Bankers Association (ABA) School of Bank Marketing and Management. She currently serves on the Editorial Advisory Board for ABA Bank Marketing and Sales Magazine.


A. Dawn Lesh, Marketing Executive

Dawn Lesh has over 25 years of global executive experience in the management and execution of communications and marketing. Her work with global premium brands has included services and tangibles with a focus on Financial Services. She has been an adjunct professor at the Stern School of Business, NYU in the Marketing Department since 2004. She teaches Financial Services Marketing and Marketing Metrics and Decision Making. Besides heading up her own consulting firm, A. Dawn Lesh International, for the last 18 years, with clients that have included investment management firms, institutional insurance firms and private equity firms.

Dawn previously held senior management positions at Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, McCann Erickson, New York Stock Exchange, Bank of America and Wells Fargo Bank. Dawn has a MA in Communications Research and a BA in Rhetoric. She is a published author and is Past Chairman of the American Marketing Association Foundation. Dawn speaks frequently at marketing and service industry events.

Joseph J. Bartolotta, Vice President/Marketing Director, Eastern Bank

Joe is Executive Vice President/Marketing Director at Boston-based Eastern Bank, the largest and oldest mutually owned bank in the country. Eastern’s Marketing Team oversees all advertising, in-branch merchandising, digital communications, research, PR and social media.

During his tenure, Joe has led a number of brand-building efforts aimed at improving awareness, favorability and consideration. His efforts included a partnership with NESN to advertise during Red Sox games, as well as associations with football greats Doug Flutie and Vince Wilfork.

Prior to joining Eastern, Joe worked for a public relations firm and, prior to that, spent 12 years as a journalist, concluding his career as a business writer at the Boston Herald. Joe earned his B.A. in Journalism from the University of Connecticut.

Joe is actively involved in the community, serving as president of the Greater Lowell Community Foundation and, for more than a decade, as a youth soccer coach in his hometown.


Patricia D. Jatkevicius, Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer, Liberty Bank

For the past 15 years, Patricia has held the position of Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer for Liberty Bank. Her expertise includes brand development, advertising, product promotion, public and media relations and overseeing website and social media programs. Patricia sits on the board of MARC Community Resources and is a former board member of her regional chapter of the American Red Cross. Her works has been recognized and awarded by the Connecticut Ad Club, the Financial Marketing Association and has received an Effie Award.

Lani Hayward, Executive Vice President, Umpqua Bank, Portland Oregon

 As Umpqua Bank’s Executive Vice President of Creative Strategies, Lani has been instrumental in creating and marketing the Umpqua brand and customer experience. By focusing on customer centric innovation and game-changing channel delivery, she has helped the bank position itself nationally and internationally as a model of change in the financial industry.

She am driven by the belief that a brand is only as authentic as the culture of the company it represents. As a result, she have focused Umpqua’s marketing efforts on exploring unconventional strategies that extend the company’s culture beyond its walls.

She currently leads a team dedicated to creating and delivering new concepts, from store design to interactive experiences to what Umpqua has dubbed “handshake marketing.” She has been recognized as one of the 25 Most Powerful Women in Banking by US Banker Magazine, and Umpqua has landed on AdAge’s list of the Top 50 Sharp Ideas, and most recenlty, was the recipient of the Retail Design Institute’s 2014 international store design of the year award.

Allen Voivod, Owner, Epiphanies, Inc
