Learning from successes - and failures - at the Fall Conference

Posted By Programming, Thursday, June 26, 2014
While summer is in full swing, our programming committee is hard at work putting the finishing touches on our Fall Conference.

Our theme will be learning from success – and failure. We’ve challenged our speakers to bring their theory into the real world that confronts NEFMA members every day. Each will be bringing real-life examples with case studies of what worked – and more importantly – what didn’t. We will learn from the experts and each other on how to hone our marketing techniques by looking results square in the eye. We guarantee you’ll come away from the conference with at least one idea that makes you a better marketer.

Our featured speaker will be Rich Brooks, noted authority on social media. He will speak in two sessions. One will provide principles for excellent social media work and the other will dig down deep into real world New England cases with social media successes and the very real challenges of making social media an effective, accountable medium. It should provide truly useful insight for all attendees.

Our featured dinner speaker will be Win Smith, former Chairman of Merrill Lynch international and author of the NY Times no-holds-barred bestseller “Catching Lightning in a Bottle.” He will share his insights on the mistakes and successes made by the banking industry in recent years as well as the marketing lessons that he has learned since purchasing the Sugarbush Resort ski area. It is sure to be an informative and entertaining evening.

In one of our panels we will consider the practical case for MCIF and CRM systems, looking not just at the technical benefits of the systems, but the practical challenges of getting your sales force to change behavior and incorporate segmentation based information into their sales routine. Again, count on real-world know-how and proven results.

With more surprises in store, this conference is one you don't want to miss. Stay tuned for more details and registration information.

When: October 23 - 24, 2014

2014 Spring Conference Wrap-up

Posted By NEFMA, Friday, June 13, 2014

Here’s what you missed …

… if you weren’t at the NEFMA Spring Conference at the Cliff House Resort in Ogunquit: engaging speakers, vital industry information, marketing advice, idea exchanges, networking opportunities, and a fantastic ocean view!

On Thursday, our attendees arrived with their thinking caps on for the always engaging and interesting, ‘Steal This Idea’ sharing session. Following dinner that evening, keynote speaker Kathryn Weare provided anecdotes from her family’s history and the Resort’s early days along with insights into how the business has evolved over time.

Attendees took away a wealth of information on Friday, beginning with how the consumer demands are shaping the omni channel experience, along with advice to keep marketing campaigns compliant in today’s regulatory environment. They also gathered tips about the best products, practices and services in the competitive small business marketplace. In our final session attendees learned about new initiatives from the United States Post Office and other reasons why they should discover, or re-discover, the value of direct mail.

Winter Conference Re-Cap

Posted By NEFMA, Thursday, February 20, 2014
Updated: Monday, March 24, 2014

In January, around 100 financial marketers braved frigid temperatures to attend NEFMA’s Winter Conference in Woodstock, Vermont. The harsh weather was quickly forgotten upon arrival at the charming Woodstock Inn, where a roaring fire greeted guests.

Many NEFMA members who arrived early Thursday headed to the nearby town of Quechee for a guided tour of the Simon Pearce glassware plant. Thursday evening, attendees gathered for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at the Networking Reception, immediately followed by dinner in the Woodstock Inn’s main dining room.  During dinner, guest speaker Clay Adams, CEO of Simon Pearce, delivered a fascinating account of his experience managing a luxury brand through rapid growth and diversification.

Friday’s conference program began with breakfast and a welcome address from NEFMA President, Bill Dewitt. The morning sessions covered a broad range of marketing topics including market research, compliance, and event planning. First up was “Getting to Know Your Customers,” a detailed look at several research techniques that every marketer should be familiar with. The “Compliant Sales and Marketing Strategies” presentation went deep into the intricacies of UDAAP regulations and how to avoid common compliance issues. “Event Planning Essentials” rounded out the early sessions with some innovative approaches to creating successful customer events.

After lunch, keynote speaker Ted Rosen presented “How to Stop Selling Products and Start Building Relationships.” As president of Expert Business Development LLC ,  Ted specializes in helping financial service providers build strong relationships.  His session demonstrated his thorough knowledge of relationship building techniques, as he shared many useful insights on designing internal processes and effective sales training.

Just who (or what) is Simon Pearce?

Posted By NEFMA, Wednesday, December 18, 2013

Simon Pearce is a highly talented entrepreneur and master craftsman of glassblowing and pottery. An Irish-American, he learned his craft in Kilkenny Ireland and opened his first US factory in Quechee, Vermont in 1981. The facility, powered by hydroelectricity on the Ottauquechee River, also includes a showroom, fabulous restaurant and glass-blowing demonstrations.

Simon Pearce glass is highly collectible and coveted among those who appreciate fine craftsmanship. His works have been gifted to foreign dignitaries and presenters of the Academy Awards.

Lucky for us he chose New England to start his business and our Winter Conference is being held right around the corner–how convenient!

Take a tour at Simon Pearce on Thursday, January 23 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. and join us later in the evening to hear our guest speaker, Clay Adams, CEO of Simon Pearce.
