Cupples Commentary Edition 11

Well hello NEFMA Members,

Some may think this is quiet time for NEFMA because we do not have another conference until October (ahem October 13 & 14 at the Hartford Marriott Downtown) but it isn’t.

When we go to conferences (NEFMA, ABA, Financial Brand), we listen to speakers, get takeaways, network and then head back to the office and hope to implement some things. What many people do NOT see or even hear about are the workings behind the scenes.

This edition is focused on “pulling back the curtain” (I really do not like that saying but could not come up with anything else) and tell you what is happening in the NEFMA “offseason”.



1. Board Planning Session
On May 11, the Board met for the entire day going over what it means to serve as a Board member, our roles, how we can make NEFMA better and deliver value, and most importantly, putting together a Strategic Plan for NEFMA. We will be finalizing the plan in the next month and will share it with everyone so you can see what the organization will be focused on for the upcoming year.


2. Volunteers
This organization is volunteer based and we all have our full-time jobs. To get better as an organization, we need help on committees (Membership, Programming, Marketing, Awards Show) to get things done. The more volunteers the less “heavy lifting”. After the April conference, many of you came up and asked how you could get involved (I have not forgotten about you and will be in touch). We want to get better and better as an organization. We have made huge strides in 2 years and want to keep improving. If you have interest, please email me at cupplesadam@gmail.com and I can explain more.


3. Budget
Don’t we all love budgets? Well the NEFMA budget has to get done and will in the next month. Always a fun process (can you feel the sarcasm) and budget for speakers, food, entertainment, AV, venues and a lot more I can’t and don't want to think about at the moment.


4. Financial Brand

You probably are asking yourselves why is he saying/writing the FB word. My answer to that is why ignore the elephant in the room? Many of you just went to Vegas (including my co-worker Kati) and it is not a cheap trip and I heard it was a great conference. So I want to pick your brain and hope you will answer a few questions.
